Language Standards Explained

We use ACTFL - the same standard as Utah's DLI schools.

If your child's school uses Dual Language Immersion, their teacher already uses ACTFL. We use the same framework - so our sessions connect directly to their classroom. We also align with CEFR, the global standard recognized worldwide.

    FAQ

    Questions parents ask most

Everything families typically want to know before enrolling.

    Getting Started

    4 questions
How does the process work?tap to read ↓
Parents begin by completing our enrollment form and paying the $125 annual enrollment fee. This reserves your child's spot on our roster and includes a free 15–20 minute CEFR + ACTFL placement assessment. Once the assessment is complete, we match your child with the right licensed teacher and the right group or format. You receive a Google Meet link before the first session - one click, no downloads needed. Sessions begin on your schedule from that point forward.
Does the $125 fee include the placement assessment?tap to read ↓
Yes - completely. The $125 annual enrollment fee does two things: it reserves your child's spot on our roster, and it includes their CEFR + ACTFL placement assessment at no extra charge. There is no separate diagnostic fee. The assessment takes 15–20 minutes and is completed before the first session so we can match your child accurately with the right teacher, level, and group.
What happens during the first session?tap to read ↓
The first session begins with a brief introduction - the teacher reviews your child's placement results, confirms their goals, and gets to know how they learn best. From that point, instruction begins immediately. There is no long onboarding process - we start working from session one.
How are educators selected?tap to read ↓
Every teacher at Elevate Language Lab is licensed and/or experienced, background-cleared, and trained in ACTFL and CEFR standards. We personally review each educator before they join our roster - verifying their credentials, classroom experience, and ability to teach children and teens specifically. We then match each student with the right teacher based on their level, grade, learning style, and goals. Parents do not search or select teachers themselves - we handle the matching entirely.

    Our Educators

    4 questions
Are your educators qualified?tap to read ↓
Yes. All teachers hold a valid U.S. teaching license or equivalent - which includes mandatory background clearance. Experienced teachers without a license also undergo our own background check. Every teacher is verified on ACTFL and CEFR standards before their first session. We never place an unvetted educator with a student.
What if the educator is not the right fit?tap to read ↓
If a match isn't working well, we will rematch your child with another educator. Our goal is to find the right fit for every student - not just assign the first available teacher. Please contact us directly and we will handle it promptly and without complication.
How do families communicate with educators?tap to read ↓
All communication goes through Elevate Language Lab - not directly between families and educators. This protects both your child and our teachers, ensures consistency, and keeps scheduling and logistics organized on our end. If you have a concern, a question about your child's progress, or need to reschedule, contact us and we handle it from there.
Who founded Elevate Language Lab?tap to read ↓
Elevate Language Lab was founded by licensed Utah educators with direct experience in Dual Language Immersion programs. Having worked inside Utah's DLI schools, our founders understood that families needed more than generic tutoring - they needed educators who understood immersion methodology, ACTFL standards, and the specific demands of academic language development. Elevate Language Lab was built to fill that gap.

    Sessions & Scheduling

    6 questions
What ages and grades do you work with?tap to read ↓
We work with students in 3rd through 12th grade learning French or Spanish. This includes students in Dual Language Immersion programs, traditional school language classes, heritage speakers, and students preparing for AP exams or advanced academic language goals.
How often does my child meet with their educator?tap to read ↓
Standard enrollment is four sessions per month - one session per week. Families who need faster progress can request two sessions per week. Please note that a second weekly session may be with a different teacher depending on availability. Contact us to discuss this option.
How long are sessions?tap to read ↓
All sessions are one hour. This applies to every format - Individual, Partner, Small Group, and Debate & Communication.
Do you offer online sessions?tap to read ↓
Yes - all sessions are held online via Google Meet. One click on your session link is all it takes. No app downloads, no accounts needed for students. This works from any device - laptop, tablet, or phone - from anywhere with internet access.
Can my child attend while traveling?tap to read ↓
Absolutely - this is one of the biggest advantages of our online format. Students join from anywhere: home, a hotel, a family trip, even the back seat. As long as they have a device and internet connection, they never miss a session regardless of where life takes your family.
What if my child misses a session?tap to read ↓
Individual plans include one makeup per month - request 48 hours in advance, complete within 30 days. Group plans (Partner, Small Group, Debate & Communication) are non-refundable for absences - the session continues for all students. This is standard across language schools everywhere.

    Programs & Learning

    5 questions
Do students need to be in the same school to join a group?tap to read ↓
No - students simply need to have a similar CEFR and ACTFL level. We group by proficiency, not by grade or school. A 5th grader and a 7th grader at the same level will thrive together. The placement assessment determines the right group for every student.
Why choose a small group session over individual?tap to read ↓
Language is learned through interaction - not just instruction. In a small group of 2–3 students matched at the same CEFR and ACTFL level, students hear different ideas, practice responding in real time, and build confidence using the language naturally. Many students make faster conversational progress in small groups than in individual sessions. Individual sessions remain the best choice for students who need total focus on specific goals or who prefer a one-on-one environment.
Is Debate & Communication right for my child?tap to read ↓
Debate & Communication is for grades 6–12 with a minimum CEFR B1 / ACTFL Intermediate Mid level. Students should be comfortable holding a basic conversation and willing to speak up in the target language. They'll analyze real news and authentic documents - all in Spanish or French. We confirm readiness in the placement assessment before any student joins.
How quickly will we see progress?tap to read ↓
Progress depends on the student's starting level, goals, and consistency of practice. Most students begin to feel more comfortable and confident speaking after a few sessions, particularly when they work regularly with the same educator. Meaningful, measurable progress - tracked against ACTFL and CEFR benchmarks - typically becomes visible within 4–8 weeks of consistent sessions. Monthly progress reports keep you informed every step of the way.
